Axé has taught, performed, and trained in the United States, Ghana, Brasil, Guatemala, Colombia, France, and Spain. With a background in dances of the African Diaspora, SomaSource, Ecstatic Movement, Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Guerilla Theatre, Performance Art, Yoga, and Modern Dance--she has honed her own style of movement--Sol Vida (Sun Life)-- which is a cross-cultural, contemporary, conscious dance fusion activating radical self-love and authentic expression. Mugisha Frank (Uganda)
www.instagram.com/mugisha_frank_ Mugisha Frank is a Rwandan- Ugandan Dance artist based from Kampala, Uganda. Frank has trained in Contemporary dance, breakdance and African traditional dances which he fuses to create a unique artistic identity. As a student at Derida Dance Center (Bulgaria), he trained with a number of teachers and choreographers from around the world which introduced him to a wide range of movement vocabulary and disciplines. Frank has performed in a number of local and international festivals and worked as a movement educator in Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Africa, Bulgaria, Romania, France, Belgium, Spain, Germany and in the USA. Frank’s work focuses on decolonization of mind and body and unlearning of all he’s been taught as an African man that he feels belittles him and his culture. Through his work, he explores ways in which we can go back to the simple ancient ways of our ancestors - holistic, eco centric and soul centric ways of life. Frank is also a trained creative facilitator and has worked with young people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. In 2012 he co-founded a company called Soul-Xpressions, which works with youth from all over the world dedicating their time and skills to explore, create and share methodologies that elevate, and nurture each individual in their uniqueness using arts and sports tools. ONE SOL MASTER CLASS: In this class, we'll dive deep into our bodies and see what it's like to bow our heads to our hearts, and let the movement within us take form. We'll see what it's like to let the body lead us into the space. We will also explore a diverse vocabulary of movement from traditional African movements, to floor work and contemporary dance and fuse it all! Jen Fagan Archer (Colorado/Nicaragua)
www.ascentialdance.com Jen Archer is a bilingual dancer, educator, choreographer, singer, musician, writer, producer, anthropologist, researcher, historian, curator, wife, homeschool mom & off-grid survivor. Once again bringing her 33 years of professional arts education experience to Sol Vida’s family, she is excited to share the secrets of sustainability in the “non-commercial” arts education & performing industries. She is the Director of Colorado’s Ascential Dance Theatre as well as the award winning, bilingual arts education school called Ascential Language & Arts School (ALAS) on Ometepe, Nicaragua, celebrating her 7th season providing tuition-free programming to underserved populations in Central America. ONE SOL MASTER CLASS: Jen Archer’s class is a full bodied, rhythmic and percussive experience. African influenced movement and contemporary dance styles are blended together with a focus on the isolation of body parts, rhythm/poly-rhythms, turns and shifting weight. In addition to the technical skills developed in this class, the students will be exposed to various types of musical study & discourse. Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, African and Modern techniques will be fused to suit the class’ physical needs & emotional suitability while including academic & vocal components.
